Nicknamed the "National Gallery of the North", this museum houses
the largest collection of British art outside of London. The Walker Art Gallery is housed in
a Neoclassical building in the heart of Liverpool’s cultural William Brown Street and
welcomes visitors with statues of Michelangelo and Raphael. Its collection comprises mainly
of European pieces from the thirteenth century to the present by artists who have marked the
history of art such as Turner, Cézanne, Gainsborough, Poussin, Rubens, Simone Martini and
Rodin. The museum’s collection also extends to the contemporary British art scene by
showcasing artists such as David Hockney and Bridget Riley.
