The Entrance Pelican Feed

Sometimes it’s hard to tell who’s having more fun – the squadron of hungry pelicans or the flocks of people who come to see them at feeding time. Every day on The Entrance waterfront at 3.30pm, the impressive birds play a game of ‘catch the bouquet’ with volunteers bearing whole fresh fish. The ritual started years ago when fish shops would feed their scraps to the pelicans at the end of each day. Today, it’s a great way of monitoring their health and wellbeing. And because Mother Nature knows no bank holidays, the feedings take place 365 days a year.
