Longhua Temple

The Longhua Temple is the oldest and largest Buddhist temple still in use in the city. Its famous seven-storey red pagoda soaring over 40 metres high dates from 977. The rest of the temple consists of five halls which house statues, notably the surprising rooms with 500 golden statues and those from the era of the great sage. The Jade Buddha Temple also offers a journey into the sacred. Still inhabited by a hundred or so monks, it is the most famous in the city with its two statues of Buddha in jade imported from Burma.
