It would be tempting to believe that this museum of modern art is a
recent branch of the Tate Modern in London. Yet this Liverpool art institution opened in
1988, long before its London counterpart. Some experts go so far as to credit this museum of
being more daring than that found in Britain’s capital! Showcasing modern and contemporary
art, the Tate Liverpool presents the works of artists such as Marcel Duchamp, Jackson
Pollock and Andy Warhol; but it also presents a collection of British art dating back to the
sixteenth century as well as some performances. It spans four levels of one of the
beautifully refurbished warehouses on Liverpool’s Albert Dock.
