Sablon Antiques District

Every weekend, antique dealers and vendors from across Belgium settle into the Place du Grand Sablon, a majestic square with breathtaking facades dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries. In the shadows of Notre-Dame du Sablon, the flamboyant Brabantine Gothic jewel, visitors will find Chinese furniture, paintings, jewelry, and silverware on display. The market was originally founded in 1958, when antiquarian Georges Van de Weghe, asked permission to the parish priest to display some of his prints to the crowds exiting Sunday mass. The authorization was given on the condition that he created a market comprising a variety of exhibitors. In addition to the weekend antiques market, the neighborhood is a hub that also brings together many antique specialty shops.
