M50 Creative Park

Whilst Beijing has its 798 Art District, Shanghai displays its M50 on the banks of the Suzhou River. Less extensive but still arty, the M50 Creative Park incorporates over 24,000 m2 of huge industrial buildings dating from the 1930s and ’40s. These are now used as places and media for artistic expression. Inside, as well as outside, you'll find graffiti art and sculptures as well as an array of exhibitions of contemporary artists, both Chinese and international. Among the most popular galleries are ShanghART, Art Scene Warehouse, Eastlink Gallery and Island6. This is an address for the avant garde that is original, surprising and often disconcerting.
