Britain’s capital is the perfect playground for fans of contemporary
art. One of its many specialist galleries, the White Cube owes its reputation to the success
of artists including Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin and Marc Quinn all of whom it propelled to
fame. The Saatchi Gallery in Chelsea exhibits mainly American artists including Jeff Koons
and Andy Warhol. However, since it opened in 1985, it has also had a major influence on
British art. Introducing the next generation, the Young British Artists, it has helped many
new artists come to the fore. The Serpentine Galleries in Kensington Gardens present the
likes of Man Ray and Anish Kapoor and invites a different architect to create a new
temporary pavilion every year.
