Near the street dedicated to luxury shops (the famous Middle Huaihai Road), Xintiandi is one of the most stylish districts of Shanghai. It is, incidentally, located right in the heart of the megalopolis. This collection of traditional houses, brilliantly restored, now accommodates elegant shops and restaurants. In the centre, the house where the Chinese Communist Party was founded seems to be keeping up the resistance. But this leisure district, exclusive and elegant, even if it takes its inspiration from the lilong (narrow streets) and shikumen (traditional unassuming house), plays the upmarket card. Two entirely pedestrianised areas enable you to enjoy nothing but shops as you discover the area.
