Wat Saket

Built on top of an artificial hill and crowned with a gleaming golden pagoda (chedi), the Golden Mount Temple is much revered by locals. At the bottom is an old cemetery, now overgrown with vegetation. From here, 300 steps lead upwards, encircling the hill like a coiled snake. The panoramic view from the top is worth the climb. It takes in the Grand Palace and the city’s most important temples, against a backdrop of shiny skyscrapers. A huge – and hugely popular – week-long fair is held at Wat Saket every November.
