The Tian Tan Buddha boasts some truly monumental dimensions: it’s 34 metres tall and weighs 250 tonnes. Perched on Ngong Ping hill, up in the heights of Lantau Island, the imposing statue gazes out, contemplating the view. You can get to his lotus-shaped pedestal via a staircase with several hundred steps. Not far away, the Buddhist Po Lin Monastery, hidden by lush green nature, complements the experience perfectly. Tian Tan Buddha is actually an extension of this place of worship, built at the beginning of the 20th century.
