The Temple of Literature

The Temple of Literature in Hanoi boasts a rich history dating back to the eleventh century. This Confucian temple is the largest dedicated to Vietnamese literature and comprises a complex of five walled courtyards. Beyond its religious dimension, the Temple of Literature also served as an imperial academic institution. Children from the aristocracy and the sons of Mandarin senior civil servant conducted their studies here to become "Sons of the Nation". In the third courtyard, the names of the candidates who reached the highest level of education are recorded.
