While it might not always be the sunniest spot in the UK, Liverpool and the surrounding areas are home to several beautiful parks and green spaces. So, why not take a break from the city and enjoy a little colour during your next visit?
Liverpool’s greenspaces play host to year-round events including charity runs, fireworks displays, festivals, and more! Check out what’s on while you’re in the city or head out for a stroll and grab a little fresh air to break up your trip.
Calderstones Park
A beautiful 22-acre park in South Liverpool, Calderstones Park boasts leafy woodland, a vast lake, and field after field of soft green grass. Little ones will love visiting the decades-old monument to Jet, a WW2 hero dog who saved around 150 lives during the war!
Look out for the 1,000-year-old oak tree and take a ride on the miniature railway. There’s a picnic area and children’s playground in the park too, making Calderstones the perfect place to visit with the whole family in tow.
Newsham Park
Grade II listed Newsham House is surrounded by 121 acres of parkland, the perfect place to escape the bustle of the city centre. There are two large lakes at Newsham Park, as well as a playground for little ones to enjoy.
The park is open year-round, so whether you head out for a walk on a brisk winter’s day or pack a picnic and settle in for a leisurely afternoon in the sun, choose Newsham for guaranteed peace and quiet.
Sefton Park
Sefton Park is the crowning jewel on the city’s green spaces. The magnificent 235-acre park is Grade I listed, Green Flag and Green Heritage awarded, and there’s plenty for the whole family to enjoy.
Stroll around the sprawling fields and look out for heritage features and monuments, including the colourful Victorian bandstand that’s thought to have inspired the Beatles’ Seargent Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
Check out caves and waterfalls, take the kids to the playground, or visit the glistening Palm House. Events are happening inside Palm House throughout the year, including the annual Liverpool Food and Drink Festival, so make sure you check out what’s on while you’re in the city to avoid missing something special.
There’s a choice of cafés at Sefton Park too, so visitors can grab a warming coffee and a fresh cake or sandwich to fuel the fun.
