Shanghai Museum

Standing opposite Shanghai’s town hall in Puxi, in People’s Square, this fascinating and comprehensive museum specialises in Chinese art. It recounts its history in a circular building shaped like a ding – an ancient Chinese bronze cauldron. The Shanghai Museum houses outstanding collections and can pride itself in its leading museography. Bronzes, sculptures, ceramics, paintings, jades… The works on show illustrate the major stages of Chinese civilization. Calligraphy and the works of the Ming and Qing periods obviously take a prominent place and are an excellent means of learning about the culture of this fascinating country.
