Even from afar, the three imposing, crane-like Kranhaus buildings define the silhouette of the Rheinauhafen. Where there was once a bustling industrial harbour, developed in the late 1800s, there’s now a mix of art, culture and hip eateries. Silos and warehouses have been carefully restored and converted to living space, forming an architectural collage of the historic and the contemporary. Visitors can discover up-and-coming painters at Galerie Reitz, and then stop at one of the ‘piazzas’ for a seven-course meal, complete with marina views at starred chef Daniel Gottschlich’s Ox & Klee restaurant, or cocktails at his restobar Bayleaf.
