Housed within a former 18th century hospital and an extension designed by Jean Nouvel, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía makes up the “golden triangle” of Spanish art, along with the Prado and the Thyssen. It is home to more than 160,000 modern and contemporary works of art. Across 3 chronological exhibitions, the permanent collections explore Spanish art in relation to the country’s history and changes in society throughout the 20th century. One of the major attractions in this museum is Pablo Picasso’s stunning Guernica, which can be found alongside pieces by Dalí, Juan Gris, Tapiés and Miró.
