This is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated alternative music
stores in Liverpool. Probe Records was opened in 1971 by Geoff Davies who wanted to showcase
the best of the emerging British punk and new wave music scene over the coming years. In
1976, the shop moved to the city center (on the corner of Button Street and Whitechapel),
close to a club named Eric’s Club. It is in this club where the Clash, Joy Division, the
Ramones and the Sex Pistols played - Probe Records became its "back room." Today, in another
building, the store remains at the forefront of alternative music trends.
