Liverpool’s music scene is ever-changing. While bands and musicians have come and gone, and genres have peaked and dropped off the radar, one thing remains – Probe Records.
Established by Geoff Davis in 1971, Probe is a locally adored hub for collectors of vinyl, CDs and music memorabilia. In the years since its opening, the shop has ascended to being somewhat of a Liverpool institution, described be iconic music writer Paul Du Noyer as “the semi-official courtroom of Liverpool music”. The shop relocated in 2010 to new premises inside The Bluecoat on School Lane, a well-established destination for modern art and music, and the oldest building in Liverpool city centre. As well as being home to Probe Records, The Grade I Bluecoat is home to ever-changing exhibitions, dance, literature and events. Conveniently set between Liverpool One shopping destination and the more cultural side of the city, Probe Records is easy to access no matter how you’re spending the rest of your time in the area.
