Plaza Mayor

With its impressive dimensions, 129 metres by 94 metres no less, the Plaza Mayor is built to impress. Designed in the 17th century under Philip II, whose equestrian statue stands proudly in its centre, the square boasts a number of buildings of interest from both an historical and an architectural point of view. These include the Casa de la Panadería and the Arco de Cuchilleros, through which a staircase leads down into the pretty street of the same name. The roads around the square are really charming too, with lots of food and craft shops.
