Pinakotheken

For art lovers, a tour of the renowned Pinakothek museums in the Maxvorstadt area is an absolute must. The Alte Pinakothek displays works by world-famous masters including Dürer, Rubens, Rembrandt and Raphael, while art from the 18th and 19th centuries, including highlights like Van Gogh’s ‘Sunflowers’, is presented in the Neue Pinakothek. The Pinakothek der Moderne, designed by Stephan Braunfels, is devoted to contemporary art and modern European design. Andy Warhol’s pop art awaits visitors at another of the Bavarian State Galleries – the Museum Brandhorst – and masterpieces from the 19th century are the draw at the Sammlung Schack on Prinzregentenstrasse.
