Opened on 1 October 1959, the day of the tenth anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the two buildings of the National Museum of China were expanded in 2010. Now 192,000 square metres, divided into 40 galleries, serve as a setting for the museum’s two flagship exhibitions: “Ancient China” and “The Road to Rejuvenation”. Through works of art or objects from daily life, as well as archive documents, they offer a wide panorama of the history and culture of China. Ten or so temporary exhibitions, with an international emphasis, complete the rich collections.
