Musée des Augustins

Housed in a former convent from the early 14th century, Musée des Augustins has a long history that began during the French Revolution, when the building served as a storehouse to protect works of art from being looted. This makes it one of the oldest museums in France, opened to the public just after the Louvre. Beautifully displayed in a sublime medieval setting, the collections include works by Rubens, Perugino, Vigée-Lebrun, Ingres and Delacroix. The sculptures, exhibited in the former cloister, offer numerous examples of 12th-century Romanesque achievements as well as works by Rodin, including a bronze of Camille Claudel.
