Under the auspices of the famous watchmaker, in 1994, the Fondation Cartier moved into a lofty building made of glass and steel, designed by Jean Nouvel right in the heart of Paris. The idea behind the venue was to make contemporary art accessible. Its highly anticipated exhibitions also look at fashion and design, often creating a real buzz in the capital and beyond. Over the years, the Fondation Cartier has welcomed the crème de la crème of international creative and artistic talents, from Patti Smith to Issey Miyake, via Matthew Barney, Jeff Wall and Andy Warhol.
