İstiklal Caddesi

A historic red tram trundles up and down Istanbul's famous "Independence Avenue", passing countless shops, galleries, cafés and restaurants housed in renovated Ottoman-era and art deco buildings. The pedestrianised avenue runs for around 1.4km from trendy Karaköy northeast towards the bustle of huge Taksim Square. International brands of every description stand side by side with antiques stores and independent boutiques run by young, passionate Turkish entrepreneurs and designers. Highlights include Balık Pazarı food market and Çiçek Pasajı arcade, which dates back to 1876. Join the thousands of locals and visitors who come here to shop, stroll, eat and play.
