Genneper Water Mill

In the Gennep neighbourhood is a picturesque water mill – so picture-perfect that Vincent Van Gogh painted it four times in November 1844. Genneper Watermolen has ground grains and seeds since before 1249, except for when it was destroyed during the Eighty Years’ War. It was completely rebuilt in 1587, and then meticulously restored in 1963. Though only the grinding mechanism is from the 16th century, the building has lost none of its charm.

The mill still works, operated by a volunteer. It’s open to the public every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Admission is free.
