Früh am Dom

There’s no better place to enjoy typical Cologne hospitality than in a traditional brewery tavern like Früh am Dom. Directly opposite Cologne Cathedral, it’s been serving locals and visitors its own Kölsch beer and hearty cuisine since 1904. Guests relax in the rustic, cosy ambience and are served freshly tapped beer in the typical 200ml glasses by cheeky-but-charming waiters – or Köbes, as they’re known in Cologne. The extensive menu naturally includes local classics like Halve Hahn (a rye bread roll with mature cheese) and Himmel un Ääd (“heaven and earth” – fried black pudding with potato and apple purée). In summer you can take a seat in the beer garden around the Heinzelmännchen fountain, and in winter in the cosy vaulted cellar.
