Perched on top of Montjuïc, the Joan Miró has made a home for itself in a rationalist building, designed by the architect Josep Lluís Sert. Barcelona reveals itself from the building’s impressive balconies, between two sculptures. Inside, some 14,000 works of art, paintings, drawings and installations introduce visitors to the work of Miró, one of the country’s significant talents, born in Barcelona at the end of the 19th century. The many works housed here include Ermita de Sant Joan D'Horta, The Gold of the Azure and Woman. The Foundation also hosts temporary exhibitions introducing current artists such as Roni Horn and Kiki Smith.
