Vieille Charité

Vieille Charité is a former hospice, and at its centre is a beautiful Baroque chapel with a remarkable dome and columns. The building had long lost its original function by 1951, when it was deemed a historic monument. Today, this restored 17th-century complex is an important artistic and cultural institution. Along with collections from the Museum of Mediterranean Archaeology and the Museum of African, Oceanic and Native American Arts, it’s home to a university institute and the International Poetry Centre – a hub for poets, publishers and the public. The rich programming includes a variety of conferences, workshops, shows and exhibits.
