Ubud is home of Bali's art scene and local artists, and artisan crafts take centre stage at the city's many market, including Pasar Seni Ubud, Pasar Seni Guwang and Pasar Seni Sukawati. The Jalan Wenara Wana (“monkey forest street”) and the surrounding area is another highlight of Ubud, filled with little guesthouses and cafés. The name Ubud means “medicine”, as this is the region in which many medicinal plants were once found. Even today, you can pick up a souvenir connected to the town’s past, or try a tea with all sorts of benefits from one of the herbalist shops.
