Strijp-S, Strijp-T and Strijp-R are the former sites of Eindhoven’s foremost employer, Philips. After the company moved its operations elsewhere in the 1990s, the city slowly started the process of repurposing the assorted postwar buildings.
Today Philips’ former offices, factories and power plants have been transformed into shops, residences, studios, restaurants, entertainment venues and event spaces. Strijp-S is known for its experimental LED lighting and installations. Still a work in progress, these areas are already abuzz with creativity and multiculturalism. Makers, startups and innovators flock to these post-industrial complexes, as do the city’s young people.
