Founded in 2008 under the artistic direction of Dr Gene Sherman, the Sherman Contemporary Art Foundation (SCAF) is a philanthropic organisation. Based in the heart of the Paddington neighbourhood, it is dedicated to the public exhibition of contemporary art from Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. An avant-garde pioneer on the Australian cultural landscape, the foundation has so far presented more than 26 projects, published around thirty different publications and hosted more than 400 conferences and workshops. Artists include: Ai Weiwei, Janet Laurence, Dinh Q. Lê and Tokujin Yoshioka. This multi-disciplinary venue has a number of resident artists (including film-makers, architects, writers etc.) as well as showcasing the digital arts.
