Residenz

Combining elements of Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo and Classical architecture, the Munich Residenz, which has seen steady expansion since the 14th century, is among Germany’s largest urban palaces. The former residence and Bavarian seat of government is home to the Residenzmuseum. There are over 100 rooms filled with art and furnishings from the 16th to 19th centuries, pulled from the collection of the Wittelsbach dynasty. Among the highlights are the treasury, with priceless jewellery and decorative pieces, and bronze sculptures from the 16th and 17th centuries in the bronze halls. After a guided tour, visitors can relax in the shady Hofgarten.
