National Gallery of Victoria

Founded in 1861, the National Gallery of Victoria is one of Australia’s oldest museums, with an incredibly rich art collection. Nearly 70,000 sculptures, paintings, pieces of designer furniture and crafts are exhibited throughout its huge galleries. Ancient and aboriginal art as well as paintings by Rubens and Rembrandt are spread across two buildings: the Ian Potter Centre and the NGV International. The latter is known for its unique stained glass suspended ceiling, a work of art in itself that enhances the museum’s atmosphere with its shimmering colours and light.
