Located in a former Maharaja palace since the 50s, the National Museum of Modern Art in New Delhi showcases mainstream Indian art from the nineteenth century. Its collection of paintings, drawings, sculptures and photographs can be discovered following a chronological path. Whether viewing the Raja Ravi style, the Rajput School or that of Bengal, Indian artistic talent is clearly affirmed here. The spotlight focuses upon major contemporary artists such as Rabindranath Tagore and Nandalal Bose. The exhibition hall devoted exclusively to Amrita Sher-Gil is also well-worth discovering; little known in Europe, this painter was actually a pupil of Cezanne.
