Museum of Natural History and Jardin des Plantes

Founded in 1796 by the French naturalist Philippe-Isidore Picot de Lapeyrouse, the Museum of Natural History (also known as the ‘Museum of Toulouse’) is nestled in the city’s Jardin des Plantes (botanical garden) at the heart of the historic Busca-Montplaisir district. Its impressive collection of more than 2.5 million artefacts and specimens spans 6,000sqm and offers a fascinating deep dive into the heart of the earth’s natural history. Divided into three sections (historic, modern and botanical garden), the museum notably boasts an impressive wall of reconstituted animal skeletons in glass cubes.
