Over a hundred years old, the Melbourne Museum takes centre stage in the Carlton Gardens. Its collections are spread over 8,000m2 in 8 galleries across 6 floors. The museum is incredibly popular, attracting just over a million visitors a year. They come here to explore the history of Victoria’s capital, as well as the geology, flora and fauna of the whole state. The twenty or so permanent exhibitions focus on dinosaurs, koalas and Aboriginal culture. Phar Lap, the famous Australian racing horse from the beginning of the last century, is one of the flagship attractions of this fantastic museum.
