Visiting local markets is a tradition held close to the hearts of Parisians, and there are around a hundred of them hosted in the city. The oldest is the Marché des Enfants Rouges, which began in the 17th century. Cosmopolitan and colourful, it is held in the Marais from Tuesday to Sunday. On the left bank, the Raspail organic market only takes place on the last day of the week. It’s popular with the chic, bohemian regulars of the Café de Flore. The legendary Saint-Ouen Flea Market comes alive from Saturday to Monday, to the delight of anybody looking for second-hand china or furnishings, from vintage clothes and 20th century designer furniture to collector’s items.
