Before the race, there’s a hint of Ascot – the touch of a country fair. But as soon as Germany’s finest racehorses storm over the 2,000m grass course at 60km per hour, adrenalin rules. Spectators can experience these magical moments at the Köln-Weidenpesch racetrack, established by Cologne’s high society back in 1898. A bygone charm still lingers over the historic grandstands, charged with excitement and energy. Those who feel lucky can place their bets on a horse. An idyllic spot for relaxation is the beer garden at the Tattersall, a pub with a long tradition that’s also open on non-race days.
