Housed in the Al Fahidi Fort, a former palace that has also been
home to barracks and then a prison, the Dubai Museum is the biggest in the city, and also
the oldest, dating back to the 1790s. The Dubai Museum explores day-to-day traditional life
in the emirate of Dubai, before oil was discovered there in the 1960s, including home life,
mosques, souks and farms. It also presents the flora and fauna of the desert and the sea.
The Dubai Museum is a tribute to and a striking reminder of the way life has changed in
Dubai since the discovery of oil.
