Deutsches Sport & Olympiamuseum

Citius, altius, fortius! The motto of the International Olympic Committee – ‘faster, higher, stronger’ – is the unifying theme of the German Sport Museum. Founded in 1999, it’s housed in a heritage-listed building in Rheinauhafen, on the banks of the Rhine. The museum covers 3,000 years – from the Olympics to the World Cup, football to winter sport, quirky anecdotes to historic rarities. But to paraphrase Adi Preissler, legendary striker from the Borussia Dortmund football club: “It’s what happens on the pitch that counts!” Visitors can climb into a boxing ring, bike in a wind tunnel or play football on the museum’s roof.
