Saint Sernin Basilica

Saint Sernin Basilica is the largest Romanesque church in Europe. Built in honour of Saint Saturnin, Toulouse’s first bishop, it is a listed monument and UNESCO World Heritage Site. The present structure, erected from the 11th to the 13th century, is remarkable for its size, the high arches of the five naves supported by majestic pillars, and the perfection of its cross-shaped layout. Many pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela find rest in this sanctuary. This church with an eight-sided bell tower, as well as relics and crypts to visit, is an integral part of the city’s landscape.
