Australian Museum

Initially known as the Sydney Museum, the Australian Museum is Sydney’s oldest museum. Founded in 1827, this museum of Natural History and Anthropology enjoys an international reputation. It houses, among other things, amazing zoological (vertebrates and invertebrates), mineralogical, paleontological and anthropological collections. As well as its presentation of local flora and fauna, the Australian Museum also impresses when it comes to scientific research. It is involved in major research programmes and studies of indigenous cultures. Its collections represent a stunning database of biological and cultural information available to researchers throughout the country and around the globe.
